Meet Our Newest Volunteer, Anna!

IMG_9915

Last week a new face moved into our office.  Anna Robinson has joined our communications team after completing a couple of volunteer programs this past year.

Calling the Midwest home, Anna grew up in many places, but found herself in Milwaukee, WI in 2007 where she attended Cardinal Stritch University for four years, obtaining a degree in communication arts and a minor in music composition.  On top of her studies, she filled those years with domestic service trips, a rock band, a pilgrimage to Italy, a backpacking trip to Ireland, and many leadership roles on campus.

Post graduation she volunteered for a school year at Red Cloud Indian School Inc. on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, serving as a full-time substitute teacher in the high school.  Besides teaching she also coached two sports, drove school buses, and created promotional material for the volunteer program.  She then followed that volunteer program with another volunteer opportunity over the summer driving for the Sundance Film Institute in Utah.

Taking a break from driving, Anna now hopes to gain new skills and experience in communication work and volunteer recruitment.  “I would like to show others this alternative lifestyle, volunteering and living simply in community, that is very rewarding and fulfilling.”

Anna looks forward to exploring the D.C. area and hopes her first time living “in the big city” will prove to be a year of growth and opportunity.

A little more about our new staff member:

Anna’s favorite Saint – “St. Francis of Assisi, not to be too cliche, with St. Clare of Assisi a close second. They’re life stories have unexpectedly changed mine and I feel very inspired by what they’ve done.”

Fun fact about Anna – “I love weather and chasing storms!  The way weather impacts society I think is one of the most fascinating and exciting things about the natural world.”

We prepare and support lay Catholics for two-year international, one-year domestic and 1-2 week short-term mission service opportunities in solidarity with impoverished and marginalized communities across the globe.

The blog is maintained by the communications staff.
