Encountering God Through Openness

Sr. Cathy Cahill, OSF

Today’s Advent story of encountering God from Sr. Cathy Cahill, OSF, an FMS board member and Franciscan Sister of Allegeny. Sr. Cathy lives in Tampa, Fla. and leads retreats at the Franciscan Center.

Encountering God is a daily occurrence when I open myself to the experiences of each new day. That I can breathe is a gift from God. The one who gives me life and breath is as close as that breath.

I encounter God when I slow down enough to pay attention. Then I am more likely to be aware of God’s presence in all of creation and the person in front of me — like the woman cleaning the rest rooms at the airport. Her smile when I commented on the cleanliness of the facilities was truly an encounter with God.

Be sure to share with us on Facebook your story of encountering God this year!

Sister Cathy Cahill, OSF, is an Franciscan Sister of Allegany who has served on the FMS Board of Directors since 2011. She finds interaction with the missioners and staff of Franciscan Mission Service a great encouragement about the future of the Church.
