Welcome Associate Director Meghan!

When she first met former Franciscan Mission Service missioner Nora Pfieffer, Meghan Meros had no way of knowing that this brief introduction to FMS would reappear several times years later. Meghan first met Nora in 2009 when the two were placed in the same small group during the Catholics on Call Conference at the Catholic Theological Union. Their paths then crossed again in 2011 while Meghan was volunteering in Cochabamba, Bolivia. Then, in 2015, Meghan saw the associate director position posted on Catholic Volunteer Network.

Meghan has strong ties to Latin America and is excited that working at Franciscan Mission Service will allow her to maintain and strengthen these ties. She received her undergraduate degree in Spanish and English from Goucher College and then subsequently received her masters in Spanish: Latin American studies from American University. Following graduate school, Meghan taught Spanish for a few years and also led trips for high school students to Peru and Ecuador.

Before coming to FMS, Meghan worked for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) as a Management and Program Analyst. Before she saw the associate director opening at FMS, Meghan had been praying for an opportunity to use her background and professional skills in a different way. She felt a calling towards work where she would see more of an immediate impact. After a lot of prayer and discernment, Meghan felt drawn to the exciting and ever-growing environment of FMS and its programs.

As the Director of Programs and Operations, among various other duties, Meghan will serve as the day-to-day operations leader, lead/co-lead short-term domestic and international trips, engage in international field evaluation through site visits, help coordinate the Returned Missioner program, and cultivate the values of FMS within the organization. She feels blessed that the associate director position will allow her to engage her love of mission at such an involved and intentional level.

In her free time, Meghan enjoys dancing and has been involved in ballet since she was three years old. She loves being outdoors, especially hiking and mountain biking. She loves traveling and exploring and in addition to being a wilderness first responder, she is also a certified scuba diver.

Welcome, Meghan!

Fun Fact: “I was in a McDonald’s commercial when I was eight. I had an agent and I went on auditions, but I only landed that one commercial. It was the beginning and the end of my acting career. I do actually remember it; I had a trailer and they picked out clothes for me for the day. It was all very exciting.”

Favorite Saint: “St. Thérèse of Lisieux would have to be my favorite saint. I was initially drawn to her close personal relationship to God and how she felt so cared for by God and shared that with others. She was my confirmation saint and I liked that I could look up to her as a younger female role model in faith.”
