Join Us For An Open House At Our New Offices

August has been a busy month for our staff as we prepare to welcome five new lay missioners to training in September.

Part of that preparation has been moving our administrative offices out of our Casa San Salvador on Quincy Street and into space in the Theological College’s McCormick Pavilion at 415 Michigan Avenue, Northeast. If you’re coming to visit our offices, use the North Entrance of Peabody Hall (pictured below). Our mailing address remains P.O. Box 29034, Washington, D.C. 20017.

Our new office! Use the door on the left to come see us. We’re right on the ground floor.

Our missioners will continue to study and live at Casa San Salvador with our intentional young adult community, which includes our domestic volunteers. Only the staff work space has moved out of the Casa.

We are blessed to be going through this transition because it is a result of our growing program. The incoming mission class is one of the largest in recent history. Our domestic volunteer program has spots for four young adults, and others serving as volunteers or interns in the area join in their community. There was simply not enough room for everything under one roof, so it was time for the offices to find a new home.

We are excited about this new location because we are now situated at a bustling crossroads of Catholic and nonprofit organizations.

“Our work is establishing Franciscan Mission Service as a significant contributor of Catholic adult faith formation and service within the Church,” Kim Smolik, executive director, said. “We know that in order to do this well, and continue to grow, we cannot exist in a silo.”

Our new location has already afforded us conversations with groups such as the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry and employees at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. And we are pleased to be only a short walk to our the offices of our partners: Franciscan Action Network. We look forward to forward engagement with our neighbors.

To help us celebrate this new phase of our organization, we’re hosting an Open House Happy Hour at our new offices on September 5 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. We will serve wine, cheese and homemade treats. It’s also an opportunity for you to greet our new missioners during their first week of formation.

Thanks for keeping us in prayer during this transition, and we hope to see you on September 5!

We prepare and support lay Catholics for two-year international, one-year domestic and 1-2 week short-term mission service opportunities in solidarity with impoverished and marginalized communities across the globe.
