“[Jesus] keeps telling his disciples to go, to go out. He urges them to go out and meet others where they really are, not where we think they should be. Go out, again and again, go out without fear, go out without hesitation. Go out and proclaim this joy which is for all the people.”
–Pope Francis in Madison Square Garden, 2015
However God is calling you to love your neighbors, we have an opportunity for you:
Long-Term Overseas Mission
Serve in solidarity with poor and marginalized communities in Latin America, Africa, and the Caribbean for two to six years. Whatever your gifts or skills, there is a use for them. Potential ministries include health care; social services; pastoral work; community organizing,; education; urban and rural agriculture; and art, music and sports ministries.
Before you go overseas, you’ll spend three months training in Washington, D.C. This intensive formation program is what makes us unique. And after your service you’ll spend three weeks with us on retreat processing your experiences and reflecting on your next steps.
Nonprofit Servant Leadership Program in Washington, DC
Learn about nonprofits, nurture your faith, deepen your understanding of the Franciscan charism, and serve alongside a marginalized population in the nation’s capital. This unique year-long opportunity for young adults helps them grow as servant leaders and nonprofit professionals as they volunteer full-time in Washington, DC. Participants can serve behind the scenes as an Office Associate or on the front lines of the community through DC Service Corps. Both program arms include intentional community and spiritual development.
Short-Term Mission and Global Awareness Trips
Not everyone can dedicate a year or two of their lives to full-time service overseas or at home. We created our Short-Term Mission and Global Awareness Trips to help participants gain exposure through seven to 12-day experiences focusing Franciscan spirituality, cross-cultural experiences, poverty and other social justice issues. Find out about how you can visit Bolivia and Washington, DC.
Returned missioners and former associates share a dedication to “lifelong mission” to North America, which includes a personal commitment to the Franciscan values of service to the marginalized, simplicity of lifestyle, and the promise to actively seek justice, peace, and the integrity of all creation.
Let us put our 25 years of lay mission experience to work for you. We offer trainings, retreats, and speaking engagements.
