Editor’s Note: DC Service Corps volunteer Lauren Barry shares her highlights from a week in April through a photo-a-day series.

For the week of April 2nd-April 10th, I took a photo every day to highlight various points. Here is a collection of my highlights throughout the week. Enjoy :).

Saturday, April 2nd, 2022. This weekend a few Casa members and I traveled to a local mall. While we were there we saw this aesthetically pleasing backdrop!

Monday, April 4th, 2022. This photo was taken near The Father McKenna Center early in the morning. I enjoy seeing the beautiful Cherry Blossoms and the sunrise on the way to pick up the mail.

Tuesday, April 5th, 2022. We traveled to Bread for the City for our afternoon formation session. At Bread for the City we helped prepare the rooftop gardens for future vegetables.

Wednesday, April 6th, 2022. On the way home, our bus unexpectedly got stuck behind an ambulance. Even though it took a bit longer to get home, I am glad whoever needed assistance was able to get the care they needed.

Thursday, April 7th, 2022. Thank you to our awesome housemate for cooking a delicious dinner! Yum!

Saturday, April 9th, 2022. Happy birthday to one of our housemates! A delicious and beautiful cake was made to celebrate this occasion!

Sunday, April 10th, 2022. One of our housemates had tickets to The White House Spring Garden Tour. In the photo, Chris and I are enjoying the beautiful day in Washington D.C.

Reflection Question: What highlight can you find today?

Lauren graduated from St. Bonaventure University in May of 2021, having earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and minors in Sociology and Theater. She is spending her first year out of undergraduate working as a DC Service Corps member, volunteering at the Father McKenna Center which serves men experiencing homelessness. After her year of service, she would like to continue higher education by getting her master’s degree. Lauren is incredibly grateful for this opportunity to grow in faith, service, and community.
