Encountering God in Godparents

dec30_holy-family

On this Feast of the Holy Family, former domestic volunteer Christine Landau reflects on how she’s encountered God through her godparents.

This summer, I had the chance to visit my godparents, whom I hadn’t seen for about fifteen years.

They have always watched over me – we send each other cards at Christmas, and they write on my birthday. Their attention to me over the years, even from a distance, has always touched me.

Seeing them in person brought back memories from my early childhood, and was truly a glimpse of God’s presence. Although we may not be in touch often, their faithfulness over the years means a great deal. I hope I can do the same for my own godchildren.

Remember: Tomorrow is the last day to make a tax-deductible donation to Franciscan Mission Service this year.

We prepare and support lay Catholics for two-year international, one-year domestic and 1-2 week short-term mission service opportunities in solidarity with impoverished and marginalized communities across the globe.
