Prayers for Christmas: Youth and Inspiration

Our missioner Nora in Bolivia with children at the Franciscan burn center

Remember what St. Paul said in his letter to Timothy? “Let no one look down on you because of your youth, be an example of faith, love and purity to all believers.”

FMS trains, commissions and supports lay missioners as young as 22 so that they may walk with the poor abroad. Young people also dedicate a year as domestic volunteers at our headquarters.

In our prayer for the day, board member Sr. Catherine Cahill, OSF, gives thanks for this young energy:

“This Christmas, I am thankful for the young people who are so committed to the mission of FMS. Their presence encourages me that Spirit continues to inspire and generous hearts continue to respond.

My prayer for the Christmas season and for the New Year is that we all give God our hearts that God may give us eyes that see the needs of those around, near and afar, us and we may find ways to respond where we are — one day at a time.”

Sr. Catherine currently serves as the director of the Franciscan Center in Tampa, Florida. She has been on our board since January, and has been a Franciscan Sisters of Allegany (New York) for 50 years.

Every day of Advent we will post a new prayer for Christmas. Watch some of our favorites from around the world in this video.

Nora Pfeiffer is a returned missioner who served in Cochabamba, Bolivia from 2009 to 2012. She currently works at Franciscans International – Bolivia.
